Questions on: medicals expiring; soft landing? keeping COVID in mind

Guys, have a couple of questions - I submitted my PR application on Dec 16th, and was expecting a result by June 16th. Understandably, there is a delay in processing times with the pandemic raging all over the world.

I need answers to the following hypothetical questions, as it will help me plan my future [as if this mess is not enough, I'm going to join a new job here in India in a couple of months]:

1. A friend of mine who is flying to Canada soon said that he was told soft landings are not permitted - Does anyone know if this is true?
2. My medicals are expiring on Sept 6th of this year. So:
i. If I get my PR application approved before Sep 6, 2020 - will they be extending the date by which I must land in Canada? - and by how many months/days?
ii. If I get my PR application approved after Sep 6, 2020 - I know they HAVE to extend the date by which I must land in Canada. Right? Again, by how many months/days?
3. When do you think I can expect a result by?

1. Yes, they don't want people coming solely to finalize their PR application and then leaving.
2. They generally extend the date you have to land by in these situations by a few months.
3. Nobody can say.
