Questions on how to begin sponsoring my US wife

Hello experts, I was advised to pose my questions here.

Some background, I am from Canada and work for the Canadian Armed Forces and I live in Ontario. My wife of 4 years is from Michigan and has been staying with me in my residence back in Nova Scotia for almost 3 years by renewing her tourist VISA annually to stay with me as we were having difficulties in figuring out immigration paperwork and how to cover the costs involved.

As it stands, I will be in this province for awhile with no opportunity to visit her. Since we will be apart for so long anyway, we decided to make use of this time while I now have the means to afford the paperwork costs.

I have been advised to do family sponsorship and choose outland. And now comes all the questions:

- I would like for her to return to stay with her family in MI while we process this sponsorship, and should this happen, will she be able to come visit from MI to Ontario for short periods without any issues stemming from the length of time she was with me on a Tourist VISA?

- If so, how soon would she be able to begin visiting me? (I would very much like this option to work out since it's easier for her to travel 600km to come visit me in Ontario from MI rather than 1600km from NS)

- On that matter, while waiting on the outland family sponsorship, will she be allowed to visit?

- How long have recent outland family sponsorship taken to complete? I have been advised it's not uncommon for US immigrants to receive PR in 4-8 months, is this true? I have always read it takes 12-18 months.

- What restrictions will my wife have once we do acquire her PR?

- Are there other means I should be exploring to move her here easier than what I've mentioned or have been suggested?

Any info is always appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Outland deifnitely your best bet. Now,f or the questions that I can answer:

1. 'no issue' is always a challenge. I mean, theres always issue. If you have proof of your PR application being in and/or something tying her to her country, she should be fine with visiting. We were for a year and a half and then we got into some issues.

2. and 3. She can DEFINITELY visit during outland application. Just so long as she doesn't have issue AT the border. there's no restrictions of visiting during outland.

4. Click on the 2015 spreadsheet in my signature to give you an idea of some of the processing times in 2015. We're not sure about the future because of CIC's recent update saying 18 for all.

5. I think you have to live in Canada a certain amount of time in the first.. something to make a PR permanent. GOOGLE THIS. Others will make up for my lack of knowledge. I should really know this..

6. Just do Outland. I'd say.

EDIT: For some background, I submitted a Outland PR app for my US Husband Dec 1 2015.

There should be no issues as long as she did not overstay the tourist visa. She can enter Canada with her U.S Passport.

- If so, how soon would she be able to begin visiting me? (I would very much like this option to work out since it's easier for her to travel 600km to come visit me in Ontario from MI rather than 1600km from NS)

She could visit any time she would like, there isnt a stipulation on when she can and cannot visit you.

- On that matter, while waiting on the outland family sponsorship, will she be allowed to visit?

Yes, i am a U.S citizen and visited my partner in Calgary over 10 times while i was waiting for P.R, if you want to be safe once you have paid the right of permanent resident fee, as part of the sponsorship process, have your wife present that as proof that you have submitted an application when she goes thru the border

- How long have recent outland family sponsorship taken to complete? I have been advised it's not uncommon for US immigrants to receive PR in 4-8 months, is this true? I have always read it takes 12-18 months.

Most applications if there are no red flags will take 6-10 months with some applications taking less than 4 months( criminal issues or the sincerity of your relationship which i highly doubt since you have both been married for over 4 years) My application got approved in about 10 months.

- What restrictions will my wife have once we do acquire her PR?

There will be no restrictions other than she cannot vote or join armed forces. Once she acquires a P.R she will have the right and benefits of any resident/citizen of Canada.

- Are there other means I should be exploring to move her here easier than what I've mentioned or have been suggested?

This is the best option if your and your wife are looking at Canada as a permanent long term home.

Any info is always appreciated. Thanks in advance.
