Hello,

I would like to ask a few questions regarding the education and work experience requirements of FSW Express Entry. I apologize if some of these questions were answered here in the past (I am sure they did) - it is hard to find someone with exactly the same background and concerns! I will still try to keep this as general as possible.

  1. Education: I have 4-year BSc from outside Canada and 1-year MSc from Ontario. Do I need ECA for the foreign degree or is the MSc sufficient for the application? Would it make any difference in points etc.?
  2. I am currently doing a PhD in Germany. I have an employment contract that states "doctoral student" and I get a monthly (taxable) salary. My duties are 100% research and I am not enrolled in a university yet. After reading old posts I believe that this is eligible work experience, my question is whether it matters if I finish the PhD or no, because I consider quitting to immigrate (if everything works!)
  3. Would the NOC 2011 - Physicists (my PhD is in Physics) be more appropriate than 4012 - research assistant? My concern with the latter is that its description states college/university, whereas I am employed by a research institute that is not related to education in any formal way.
  4. Does NOC affect the chances of receiving an ITA or getting the application accepted? I believe no, since points are indepedent of NOC, but would be great to confirm this.
  5. Is NOC restrictive regarding the job one can find in Canada as a PR? For example I have skills in software development and would prefer to work in this direction if I get the PR, or perhaps go for another MSc before finding a job. Is this possible?

Thank you very much and again sorry for possible repetitions. Good luck to everyone who is applying!
