Questions on Application for a Certificate of Citizenship

Hello all,

It appears that I am a Canadian citizen by descent. I'm preparing to file for a certificate of citizenship, and I have a few questions regarding details of the form and documentation. I hope that the forum users here can help.

Circumstances:
- My father was born in 1916, Ontario, Canada. Emigrated to USA in 1921. Naturalized US citizen (via parents) in 1932. Died 1979, USA.
- I was born 1961, USA. I have never lived in Canada.

1) Apparently, Ontario did not issue birth certificates in 1916. What I have is a certified copy of my father's record in the "Registration of Births," issued by the Archives of Ontario. Is that likely to be sufficient? I also have a Baptism Certification from the Anglican Diocese in which he was born. Would that be useful as additional documentation?

2) In section 6, the "Application for a Citizenship Certificate" requests details for my "Absences from Canada." Since I have never resided there, should I answer that as "No" I've never left, or "Yes" and give dates of my birth to present, with reason "Born there?" I saw this question asked before, but did not find an answer.

3) Similarly, in section 8A, it asks did my father "...ever leave Canada..." Should this be "Yes", with dates from emigration until his death?

4) Further in Section 8A, for "Other Parent" I'm listing my mother (who was a US citizen from birth). The form only asks "How did this parent obtain Canadian Citizenship" and nothing about "WAS this parent a citizen?" I'm not sure how to fill in this section. Should I just put "N/A" for "How did this parent obtain Canadian Citizenship?"

5) Finally, regarding section 8B (Applicant's Grandparents): I think the entire section does not apply, since the questions start with "If the applicant's parent was born outside Canada", but is it appropriate to mark those questions as "No" and move on?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

1) On the Service Ontario website (https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-or-replace-ontario-birth-certificate), it states that births prior to 1930 take 8 additional weeks to process, so you should be able to get your father's birth certificate from them. If they can't process your request, then you should contact the IRCC and ask if your document is acceptable.

2) I would check "Yes", From = date of birth, To = N/A, Destination = United States of America, Reason = County of birth, never resided in Canada.

3) I would check "Yes", From = date of departure from Canada, To = N/A, Destination = United States of America.

4) In this space, I wrote "Not A Canadian Citizen", then put N/A under certificate number on my application.

5) I would check "No" then put N/A in all of the corresponding spaces of this section.

Hawk29, thanks for your reply.

On #1, the Archives told me that they simply did not issue birth certificates that early, so perhaps I'd better contact IRCC and see what they think.

Thanks again!
