hello!

My American boyfriend lives in the United States will be flying and visiting me in Canada for 2 months at the end of june 2013. He has never visited Canada before. I live in British Columbia and he lives in New York.

My questions are:

1. How much money will he be required to bring to support himself if he's staying with my at my own home?

2. Is there a minimum of cash he needs to bring?

3. Will $2,000 be enough for the two months? He also has credit cards as well.

4. Will he need to bring any documents proving he has ties in the USA as well as his return ticket back to the USA? Or will the return ticket be enough documentation? If so what are examples he could bring with him?

5. Will he need copies of my home address location where we will be staying to show the IO?

6. I read in other threads people mentioning a date stamped in his passport.
Does the Canadian IO stamp every passport upon entry?
What exactly does the stamp date refer to? When he must return back to the USA? I'm unclear on that part!
If he were to extend his stay to 3 months instead of 2 would he have to contact Canada customs to get an extension?

Thank you very much!

1. How much money will he be required to bring to support himself if he's staying with my at my own home?
As much as he can. If above $ 10,000 he should declare at the border.

2. Is there a minimum of cash he needs to bring?

NO

3. Will $2,000 be enough for the two months? He also has credit cards as well.

It depends how he spend. $1000 a month looks fine. If you provide accommodation and transport, his main spending will be for food. If I am staying with my girl friend, I won't spend much :)

4. Will he need to bring any documents proving he has ties in the USA as well as his return ticket back to the USA? Or will the return ticket be enough documentation? If so what are examples he could bring with him? . Better if he has some documents to prove his strong ties to USA. It depends to the CBSA at the border.

5. Will he need copies of my home address location where we will be staying to show the IO?
yes, just to tell when he ask.

Usually he may be permitted up to 6 months and the date stamp shows when he should return from Canada. Better tell first at the border that he will return after 3 months, so they may allow him for 6 months (?) and he can return any time before that period.
