Hello! I have dual citizenship through my mother, but never took steps to get my citizenship certificate until now. I want to move to Canada with my family and we've already begun the immigration process with them. In order to sponsor them, I need my Proof of Citizenship. I do know that we can go up on our US passports and stay on a visitor visa for 6 months, by which point I will have received my eCertificate which I can then use to get my Canadian passport, etc.
But, I'd like to at least have my citizenship certificate before we go up in July, so I want urgent processing.
I did see that one of the valid reasons for urgent processing is "to access benefits such as pension, health care, obtain a Social Insurance Number." How would I invoke those reasons with my application? Like, as a Canadian, I want to go to Canada and get a SIN, etc. so that I can enter the Canadian workforce, get benefits, etc. But would the IRCC consider that valid? And how would I word this in a way that would be accepted?
Also, my US employer is willing to keep me on as an employee after I move (for now we plan to use an Employer of Record when I get there). I know that I could request urgent processing because of work and include a letter from my employer saying "We need him to have his citizenship certificate ASAP so that he can continue working for us after he moves," but if, for any reason, I sent their letter, got my PoC, and found a job elsewhere or otherwise left the company, is there any kind of liability for the company that they should be concerned about?
Thanks for the help!
