Questions about Passport Request Letter

We have now received a letter from New York City requesting my husband's passport. FINALLY!!!

A few questions:

1. What happens next? Once they have the passport do they do any further checks, etc? Or can we expect them to just issue the visa and send back the passport?

2. After getting the passport, how long do you typically have to land?

3. We will be sending the passport from Canada to the US for processing. We would like to use a courier so it is safer and faster. Any ideas how to do this? I'm not sure what it means when they say corporte account. The instructions say:

Standard Procedure: The Consulate will return documents to addresses in Canada via U.S. Postal Service First Class Mail (Regular Mail).

Courier Service: Unless it is prepaid from a corporate account, we will not return your document using ANY courier services (FEDEX, UPS, DHL).

4. It also says that the visa will be valid until April 2010. I assume that is when the medicals expired. What's the process to renew, and is it fairly straightforward?

5. Does he need to include his work permit when he sends his passport, or only the passport itself?

1. No further checks, just insert the COPR In the passport and return it.
2. 1 year from the date of the medical or the expiry of the passport, whichever comes first.
3. Read the mailing instructions : http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/imm/mailing_instructions_d_expedition.aspx?lang=eng
4. He doesn't land by the expiry date, you can't extend, you start over from the beginning.

Thanks, PMM.

For the mailing instructions, these seem to apply for Buffalo. If we are going through the NYC office, is it the same? For example, do these instructions apply:

"Be sure to purchase the Xpresspost - Canada (not Xpresspost - USA) envelope. Taking advantage of our proximity to the Canadian border, we will make arrangements to have your passport(s) mailed from Canada."

Also, do you know if we would need to send his work permit (not attached to the passport) along with the passport?

No, they would probably require a US express post envelope. No need to send WP with passport.

Thanks for responding regarding the work permit. We hoped we wouldn't have to send it.

So basically we can courier to them but they will send it back using regular mail?

Hi PMM
I need your help in following scenario; following is my summary:

Med done: Jan 2012
X-rays: 16 Nov 2013
PPR2: 10 Nov 2014
I have sent my PP to Embassy in last week and got nothing back yet.

What will happen to me now ? As in few previous comments you told Visa expires when Med/PP expires, which comes 1st
My PP will expire in 2020 and Med was already expired.
Thanks in advance
