Questions About My Child's Citizenship

Hello everyone! I just had a few questions about my son. He's due in a few months and I wanted to know about his citizenship. I'm his mother, originally from the US. His father is Canadian born and raised. We were married before his conception and I've heard that makes a difference in his citizenship. I would ideally like him to be able to travel to see family in the States but we will have him in Canada and live here permanently.

Does having us as his parents make him a dual citizen? Would he be able to see our family stateside without a passport or is there a specific procedure for marking him as American as well as Canadian? I'm finishing my immigration as well, would this complicate things?

I don't believe it's automatic for the U.S., especially if he never lives there. Consider this carefully, I met a US/CAN couple this past summer and they're keeping any possibility of their kids being American quiet. Apparently, once you're a US citizen you must file taxes with the IRS even if you don't live there.

Visiting (solely as a Canadian) should not ever be a problem, (unless he should ever end up with a criminal record).
