Hi,
I need could help with the following 2 questions:
1)
I was recently in the UAE visiting my parents at their request. They asked me to extend my visit and one of my parents (working in the UAE) and I went to the Amer center to extend my visa and paid a visa change fee. My parent saved the fee receipt and we got a new visa to cover my stay extension under the sponsorship of my parent.
When I left the country, the border officer told me I overstayed. My other parent paid the overstay fine and an exit fee and we were allowed to leave the country under humanitarian/compassionate circumstances. 2 weeks later I re-entered the UAE with no issues (in fact, the UAE border officials insinuated that I did not use the visa that I paid for and extended as per the system, on my second trip there) and have since left and returned to Canada.
My parent plans to seek further clarification from immigration authorities in the UAE on what went wrong since we followed all instructions.
My question now is do I have to report this in the optional documents in my application for Canadian citizenship? Since there is no question asking directly about overstays, let alone outside of Canada. Is it enough to keep the documentation about this issue organized in case I get asked?
2)
How best to answer the following question on the citizenship application:
Do you currently, or have you ever held immigration or citizenship status in a country or territory other than Canada (this includes your country of birth)?
Do I have to list visitor or resident statuses as a child that I had in the UAE? I lived in the UAE from 3 months old to 17 years old as my parents were working there on resident visas. I do not have stamps for resident visas under my parents sponsorship to cover all my time in the UAE, so I can at best state how long I lived there and write the information I do have based on family recollection and passport stamps.
Any guidance would be helpful.
Thank you.
