In order to proceed with the processing of your application,it is necessary for you to submit the documents indicated below:
1) Eight (8) recent photos for yourself (please follow the instructions on attached Appendix B, Photo Specifications)

Does anyone know if all 8 photos are supposed to be the same or what??

The instructions should be attached as they have stated. Yes it needs to be identical

The photographs must:
* show a full front view of the person’s head and shoulders showing full face centred in the middle of the photograph;
* have a plain white background;
* be identical (black and white or colour) produced from the same untouched negative, or exposed simultaneously by a split-image or multi-lens camera;

Yes make sure they are all identical.

As per instructions you are supposed to write on the back of one photo ONLY. Providing Name and DOB. (check instructions)

Do not write on all of them - I wrote on all of them and when hubby got the call to bring in Passport he had to go get more visa pictures taken.

Good Luck

I don't understand the question then, sorry. If you have Appendix B then it should clearly show you the stuff below:

Appendix B
Photo Specifications
Notes to the applicant

• Immigration photos are not the same as passport photos.
• Make sure that you provide the correct number of photos specified in this guide.

Notes to the photographer
The photos must:

• show a full front view of the person's head and shoulders showing full face centered in the
middle of the photograph;
• have a plain white background;
• be identical (black and white or colour) produced from the same untouched negative, or
exposed simultaneously by a split-image or multi-lens camera.

The photos must:
• measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown;
• have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 3/4”) finished size.
Just get 8 pictures as instructed. Take Appendix Bb with you and show whoever does your pictures.Easy.

As for signing the back of one, it does not say anything about it in Appendix B, although the guide to filling in the form for a partner being sponsored outside of Canada DOES request that you sign one. So you can call CIC for clarification or simply go with the letter they have sent just now.
