hi I am currently sent in my apps to sponsor my wife in Costa Rica outland, my question is would it be ok if I traveled to costa rica for 1 or 2 weeks to visit my wife? cuz i really do miss her so much, I haven't seen her since July of 2010 and I really can't stand this wait! do i have to notify cic or something if I decide to visit her in CR? thanks guys.

Gary

You should have no problem with CIC if you travel. You do not have to inform them.

You may want someone to check your mail in Canada, to notify you if anything arrives from CIC, but as you are only away for a couple of weeks it should not be a problem.

If you are a Canadian citizen there will be no problem for you to visit your wife in Costa Rica. You don't have to tell CIC, but keep all proof of the visit (plane tickets, boarding passes, receipts for things while you are there, photos) so your wife can show the visa officer you visited her if there is an interview. Proof of visits is very good evidence the relationship is genuine. In fact if you can you should visit her more than once and stay for as long as you can. Take this opportunity to get lots of photos of you with her family and friends, showing your relationship is accepted and well-known in her community.

It is important to know, if you are a Canadian PR, that you are required to be living and working in Canada in order to be eligible to sponsor a family member. If you're a Canadian citizen, that's not a requirement. But the point being that you will want to be sure that, if you are a PR, you don't jeapordize your eligibility by staying away too long. Be sure, like Baloo says, that someone is watching your mail for any correspondence and you might want to even consider forwarding your phone to your cell or something so you don't miss any calls.

And it is a good idea to keep proofs of any visits, just in case your wife has to have an interview.
