I have a question regarding landing....

I am currently in Canada on a study permit doing my PhD and have applied thru the federal skilled worker category phd stream....

say for example...i get my passport request in June and i submit my passport for the permanent resident entry visa .I would still have my student visa (TRV) and study permit with me at that time, as I am a currently in Canada...

now if I plan to do two back to back trips in July outside canada....Is it possible for me to enter Canada when I finish my first trip and decide to NOT do my landing that time and enter on my regular student visa and study permit....and then I do my landing when I am on my second trip back into Canada...is that possible? If yes,is there any documentation somewhere as well confirming the same...I will call and ask CIC as well on Monday...but just wanted to know if someone has experienced this or knows anything about this...

The reason I am asking is because I plan to take two back-to-back trips in July and need to be prepared in case a situation like this arises....as I am expecting my passport request sometime soon...

thanks...

Get your passport request and visa first!!! My understanding that CIC will cancel your current visa and other document when they issue your PR visa.
As a PR you have the right to travel and enter back to Canada as you like. You cab study or work wherever you like within Canada.

I see there is no logic reason of your question or your prospective call to CIC on Monday. Why you want to enter without using your PR visa? The question is might be alarm of further investigation.

I donot know why you thinking this way.

It is a perfectly logical question. OP is from India and therefore is not visa-exempt. If s/he did their landing on the first trip, then s/he would require either a PR card or a PR Travel Document to be able to return to Canada from their second trip. The PR card takes about 2 months to arrive and a PRTD can take many weeks to be processed, so if OP landed as a PR on the first trip, s/he would be unable to take the second trip right away.

I don't know if it's published anywhere on the website but there have been others on the forum who have done this. When you return from the first trip, enter on your TRV and study permit; if the border guard questions why you are not completing your PR landing, show proof of the imminent second trip and explain that you will complete your landing then, as you would not receive your PR card in time if you landed now. The border guards can be pretty reasonable when it comes to situations like this.

Thanks for your response salem 10...
I know that as a PR I have the right to travel in and out of the country as I like. I dont think you understood my question.

I am travelling in July for a week and then I will be back in the Canada for 4 days and then I will be travelling for a month before I am back...If I do my landing few days before I leave then I cannot leave the country and come back until I do not get my PR card (which takes 6-8 weeks as of now)...If I do my landing after my first trip, then again I will not be able to go or my second trip outside canada...I can either extend my passport request and tell them I will give it after I come back in July or finish the passport request and see if I can complete my landing after my second trip rather than my first...thats all I was asking if that is possible...

Thanks for your response canuck_in_uk...i guess you understood what I was talking about:)...Ill have to call them on Monday and figure this out...I was hoping to get someone who has actually done this...I think when I get the passport request I can then send them a case-specific enquiry as well before sending in my passport....that might help...
