Hello everyone,

I'm being sponsored by my Canadian common-law partner, we've been in the process for almost a year now and I've recently been asked to fill out form IMM5562e: Supplementary Information Your Travels.

I'm a little bit confused as to how to fill out this form, and was hoping anyone here could help me.

I'm from The Netherlands, and have come to Canada in January 2016. This is the only trip I've made in the past 10 years, since the age of 18. I've flagpoled at the border twice since, once for my work visa, and another time for a visitor visa. I haven't made any other trips since I came here, other than the flagpole.

In a different form, IMM0008enu_2d, I wrote down that my date and place of my last entry to Canada, is March 3rd, 2018, which is when I flagpoled for the second time for my visitor visa. This is stamped down in my passport as well.

My question is: What exactly do I write down here? My country of origin/birth is The Netherlands, and my trip to Canada is the only trip I've made since the age of 18. My current country of residence is Canada.

The form mentions: 'List all trips you, and if applicable, your family members have taken outside your country of origin or of residence in the last ten years (or since your 18th birthday if this was less than ten years ago.)

I would assume I'd write down my trip from The Netherlands to Canada in January 2016, but do I write down my flagpole / border crossings as well?

Thank you so much in advance, I greatly appreciate any help!

Hi there,

Thank you for your response. I definitely did not cross the border illegally, I always had the right documentation and papers, and had to go to the border/flagpole to receive my permit, as I'm inland. Just to confirm, would I write it down like this?:

2016-01 | 2017-03 | 1 YEAR, 2 MONTHS | City, Country | Purpose

How would I write down my border crossings? Do I write where the border is located for destination? And the length less than an hour? (Seeing as it only took me less than an hour to be done at the border), with the purpose being 'Flagpoling for work visa'?

Thank you again for your help!

I would put down every entry into Canada because it is in the system regardless.

That's why they ask for a reason. No matter what, they will crosscheck the info you give them. Why not tell them ahead of what they'll see in the system

First off there is no such thing as flagpole. Instead, you leave Canada, and then you refuse to enter US, called administrative refusal and you re-enter Canada. Since your departure from Canada and Arrival into Canada is on the same day, you never left the Country. So you only need to list when you entered Canada for the first time.

During the processing of your application you can be asked to refill a specific form if the IRCC officer may have questions or concerns. Just fill the form and send it.

IRCC does have all the details of your visas and your status with them anyway.

Hi NHLNFL & legalfalcon, thank you both for your replies!

@legalfalcon, during the process of transitioning from a work visa to a visitor visa, the US officer stamped in my passport 'Application for admission withdrawn.' and wrote 'FLAGPOLE'. Does this mean I still never "entered" the US, and never left Canada? Sorry for the reply, I just want to make sure I get this right, haha. If so, would I only write down the first time I entered Canada, like you said?

So that being:
2016-01 | 2019-06 | 3 YEARS, 5 MONTHS | [City], Canada | Purpose

My original purpose was to come here to study, but after that I found work. Do I only write down my original purpose (study), or also my other purpose that came after that, being work?

Thank you for your time in advance!

Yes, when the US CBP officer stamped your passport, this is administrative withdrawal of your application and this does not bar you from re-applying to enter US again.
