Question regarding requirement of days

Hi, I received my PR last year. I have a long ways to go before I apply for my citizenship but I had a question. I read that I need to spend 1095 days in Canada before I apply for citizenship. For days spent out of Canada, do they need a proof of where one has stayed? I camp a lot and sometimes go on weeklong camping trips in USA and elsewhere. I haven’t kept a track of the national parks/other places I have spent the night. How do I provide a proof of where I stayed in such a case?

You do not need to declare as well as find proof of your addresses on such trips.

You should always keep a proof of your rent and rent agreements... this is a key issue when you apply in case they ask for these thing... for example lets say you live in Toronto, and you went to camp for like 20 days somewhere in Quebec.. you don't put that of course on your address.. that you went for camping.. The key is try not to move to so many addresses. When I applied i only had one address.. covered the last 4 years.. I got my citizenship in a very short time because my application was clean cut...

Thanks for the response! I have my own place, so I will have only one address for a long time. I thought when you apply for citizenship, you need to tell them when and where you went for a vacation and for how long. That’s not a problem as that information is captured on the passport, however I have noticed that sometimes they ask you for specific addresses of where you stayed when you went somewhere outside of the country. Is that true?
Sometimes I do trips with friends where I go to the USA just to check out a national park, for example, California. We spent 1 week camping in the campgrounds there, so basically it was a camping vacation. Now I have a vague memory of where I stayed (Yosemite park and so on) but that’s pretty much it. I am also planning to do a month long backpacking trip in Asia this year which might involve camping for a couple nights or so.
So should I try to recollect which campground I stayed at for the past trips? Or do they not care about specific vacation addresses?

First, by the time you apply, you will need 1460 days, not 1095 (unless the requirements are changed again by then). On the residence calculator, you will list all of your absences from Canada in the 6 years before the application date...the day you left and the day you returned (so, keep track of your days!), and what country/countries you went to, and what you were doing there (e.g., "vacation"). It is not necessary to be so specific as, "I was in Yosemite park camping on Thursday, then stayed at a motel at 123 Main Street on Friday." On the application itself, you will list your permanent addresses over the last 6 years...not the places you visited, but the addresses where you resided on a regular basis.

That’s very helpful Alphazip. One more question. Seems like the requirements have changed. Does time before PR still count towards days someone spent in Canada?

It counts at the moment (1/2 day for each full day spent in Canada), but it won't when the new rules go into effect (probably this summer).
