Hi PMM

We are 6 months into our immigration process we have our CSQ from Quebec and we were accepted by federal government in October 2007. Me and my candian husband have been living in Greece for 7 years and we have just discovered that his mother has just declared him bankrupt without our knowledge. How will this effect our sponsorship now, we are very upset as we have put a lot of money into this. We have been told by certain family members that she done this on purpose to stop us from coming to Canada.

Please help and advise what we can do. Anyone with any help please this also effects our child too !!!

Thank you

Well I don't see how his mother can declare him bankrupt, but you never know. If he has been declared bankrupt then he is no longer eligible to sponsor. I assume that he was declared bankrupt in Greece, as he would have to present in Canada as you have personally file for personal bankruptcy. Contact a lawyer quickly. He should have had papers served on him.

Hi PMM

Thanks for reply, from my understanding I believe that he was one of the directors of his mothers company in Canada, we are not bankrupt here in Greece as I have personally cleared all the debts so we can leave for Canada. Then the other day a family member let slip that his mother had filed the company bankrupt. from my understanding that includes him, they didnt even call us to ask if it would effect our application. We are so close to getting our visa she has only just started the process of bankruptcy. What can we do or do I say goodbye to my chances in Canada.

If the company is going into bankruptcy, it will not be a problem only a personal bankruptcy will result in a refusal. I am assuming that he has not been petitioned into personal bankruptcy. You probably don't have to do a thing,
