I wasn\'t able to find conclusive answers by searching, and I\'m sorry if this has been covered elsewhere before...

Here goes:
My spouse entered Canada as a visitor, and cohabited with me from December 2009 to December 2010. In April 2010 she applied for an extension, and her visitor visa extension was approved for 6 more months until December 2010. She received a medical exam request, and took a medical exam in August 2010 which she has proof of.

We are now applying for permanent residence (will be sending the application in a few weeks) and want to know if since she had already taken a medical exam (within the last 12 months) can she just send proof of that medical exam? And will it be sufficient medical evidence for the purposes of our PR application?

Or, will she need to take another medical exam and send the proof of the new medical exam along with our application?

Thanks so much for any guidance here.

hi..
that medical exam is only valid for visitor extention purpose.. you have to do another medical for PR application purpose... I was also in canada as visitor and got extention and did medical for extention.. but later when i applied for PR i did another medical for this...

The following is from OP Manual 15

An officer may ask a medical officer to review the examination of temporary residents with
valid medical results who apply as permanent residents.
Applicants are responsible for informing a visa office if they applied previously in a different
category. This includes applications in Canada for extensions of status. They must state where
they applied and the file number.

I should add that I spoke to a CIC officer this morning to confirm this - their exact words were: "That's totally fine. The medical exams are the same no matter what kind of application it is, so you include proof of your prior medical for the purposes of a permanent residence application"

I do understand that at any time an officer could request reexamination, but I really appreciate the additional details PMM. What is your opinion here? Do you think it would be OK to submit proof of the prior medical? Along with an explanation including the details that you mentioned?

Any other opinions?
