Question for ability to re-enter Canada

Hope someone can help me out.
I am an international student and just got graduated few weeks ago.
I am currently outside of Canada, and I am holding a valid Entrance VISA and a Study Permit expires on Jan, 2017.
However, my friend just told me that a study permit will be only valid if I registered in an certified education institution, but I have completed my degree and about to attend my convocation now (I assume that I am not registered in my university now). In this case, I am not sure if I can still re-enter Canada.

Study permit stays valid for another 90 days after graduating, so you can re-enter Canada and attend your convocation. Explain that to the officer at port of entry. You still have a valid status.
