Hi guys, I know I'm far off from any thoughts of my husband applying for Citizenship, but I just wanted to get a general idea about our timeline.

My husband will land as a PR on July 30th 2014. He is an American citizen.
With the new rule in effect, it is now 4 years out of 6 if I am not mistaken. But, does this mean he has to apply after 6 years, or, if from the day he lands he stays in Canada without leaving, can we apply July 31st, 2018? He will have fulfilled the 4 year requirement with the new rules. Or, does he still have to wait until 6 years are up.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Assuming he leaves Canada only for 1-day trips and comes back. You don't need to be here for 6 years but for 4 years within the last 6 years. In other words, you can't count time a year you spent in Canada in 2005 because it's not within the 6 years window prior to application date.

Thank you. And it has to be 4 years after he lands as PR, correct? Or if he was here for 4 months last year, could that count too? I'd just have to have proof of it, of course.
