I'm sponsoring my spouse who is in Iraq. The Canadian embassy for Iraq is in Jordan. In late April, I got a response from the CIC saying that my sponsorship application has been sent to the Canadian embassy in Jordan for further processing.Currently there's a Sunni insurgency in the country led by ISIS who have taken over a chunk of north western Iraq and are threatening Baghdad. I'm worried that these insurgents might take over roads and towns on the Iraq-Jordan border and that Baghdad and other major cities with airports could fall.

If the situation worsens in Iraq and the embassy in Jordan request to see my spouse but he can't reach Jordan by car or plane, what would happen?

Another question that I have is if my spouse's application gets accepted and they give him a visa, what happens next? Does he have to go a Canadian embassy to pick up the visa?

Thank you

Hello,

CIC usually updates its website with any news world that are related to Canada.
As you know the government will never address an issue before anything actually happens or about to.
My best advice for you is to call CIC agents and see if they got any update for cases from Iraq and if they don't just continue reading Canadian news and once in awhile call CIC to see if anything changed.
I do not believe that anyone here can give you a straight answer as this is a very complicated issue with implications that can not be predicted.

Stay strong and keep contacting CIC.

Don't worry CIC Jordan will be watching the situation. Just hope for the best.

Yea the scenario I described is a big "what if", it might not even come to that. You guys are right, the best thing I can do is to monitor the situation and keep in contact with the CIC. Thank you for the responses, I appreciate it.

One last question. If a visa gets issued, does it have to be picked up in person at the embassy or do they mail it?
