Question about taxes - common law

Hi all, I need to apply for my taxes but I think I have a problem.

I'm separated since Sept 14th 2014 when I moved to Canada, and signed the divorce papers on May 11th 2016.
I moved in with my actual partner (Canadian) in April 2015 in a shared house but just signed a lease for ourselves in August 1st when we moved to our own ap. Now the problem is, my partners mother applied for her taxes with her as dependent in the beginning of this year, and I still didn't apply for mine.
Should we have applied together as a common-law couple? Her mother still pays for her studies living expenses.
What can I do now, apply as single?
Should I apply for my taxes only after we send the sponsorship application to avoid problems?

Any help will be welcome as I'm complete lost about this issue.

Thank you!

Common-law is living together for at least 12 months.
You will be in common-law relationship in April 2016
but for 2015 (as of Dec 2015) taxes you are separated
