Question about Spouse open work permit

Hello everyone,

Just cut the chase, my current status is working on an Open Work Permit. And I am about to receive my PR status (passport already sent to CPC-O).
I got married lately and included my spouse who is in China in the application but added as Non-Accompanying Dependent. I would like to bring her to Canada as soon as possible but it seems that her PR application might take quite a while after I got mine.

So I am wondering if I could apply an Open Work Permit for her or should I wait to apply it after I got PR.And is there anything else I can do?

Thanks in advance!

The best option is for you to change her status on your application to non-accompanying so that you can both receive the PR visas at the same time. This will likely delay the issuance of your PR visa somewhat but is the fastest option for getting her here.

You can apply for an open work permit for her. However her open work permit will be based on your open work permit. So as soon as you become a PR and are no longer a foreign worker, she will have to give up her open work permit as well.
