Hi all,

My CoPR and PR visa are now in my city and I'm just waiting for FedEx to deliver them to me. I'm planning to land in January. Ideally, I would like to submit my application to sponsor my parents asap so I can bring them to Canada; however, I have a question for anyone who knows:

Looking at the guide, I noticed that you must provide a Notice of Assessment issued by CRA for each of the three years immediately preceding the date of the application. Does this mean that I have to have been working in Canada for three years before being able to sponsor my parents?

Please advise. Thanks in advance!

Yes - you need to have worked in Canada and provide CRA Notice of Assessments for 2013, 2014 and 2015 in order to qualify to apply to sponsor them in January 2017. For each of these years, you must also have made sufficient income to meet the low income cut off required to sponsor your parents.

You also need to wait a year for the final tax return. So if you make LICO starting immediately in 2017, then 2018 and 2019... you'll get your 2019 tax return in mid-2020 so could possibly apply earliest in January 2021 (assuming rules stay the same).

You might consider a SuperVisa for now.
