Question about send email for inquiring my visa

Hi,

I applied online for 2014 Jan intake on Oct. 23. As it is in December, I want to send an email to CIC for inquiring my visa.
May I ask you whether there is any negative influence on my visa application if I send the email to them? Thank you for your answers.

What do you mean by category? I applied online, and I am in Los Angeles. It seems online application will be reviewed by Ottawa CIC.
