Hello everyone,
I am US citizen that's currently a principal applicant of an Outland Spousal Family Class application that's staying in Canada as a visitor with my wife. Our application was submitted and received by the CIC last month. For the last two years, I was working as a Catholic Youth Missionary worker in the United States.
During my time here as a visitor, I was researching online on the CIC website and I noticed that jobs for religious purposes (clergy/lay people) may not require a work permit. After seeing this I inquired within the Archdiocese of Vancouver for jobs at local catholic parishes and I actually received a call-back and will be attending an interview this evening for a Youth Ministry Coordinator position at one of the local catholic churches. The job description is very similar to what I was already doing in the US, just on a more local level. After searching through the CIC website again, I found another similar but confusing description stating that religious workers still need a work permit but do not require a labour market opinion.
My main question consists of two parts: would this category of work require a work permit or not? and secondly, because I have an outland spousal application in process, would I be able to work AT ALL during the waiting process, even if the job falls within the exception rules. Someone with expertise on this please advise. I wouldn't want to go and do anything jeopardizing my PR application which is the priority at the moment, and I wouldn't want the parish doing anything against any rules, especially unknowingly. Thanks.
