Hello,

I'm in the process of getting the bank statements.
I have 2 bank accounts and both banks don't indicate on their bank statement when the account was opened. The first bank however, gave me a separate letter of when the account was created. The 2nd bank, the one I have most of my money in and the account is around 10 years old, told me they don't have any kind of letter that indicate when my account was opened, and they can't write one without contacting their legal department which might take weeks to get it done.
1- You think is it ok if I don't show a proof of when my account was created?
2- Most of my money are in Lebanese Pounds, which is a stable currency, will that cause any problem? Will CIC do the conversion themselves and figure out the equivalent number in CAD?
3- I don't have any debts nor loans. How can I prove that? Or a bank statement is enough to prove it?
4- Both bank statements are in English, stamped and signed by the bank.. Is there anything else required?

1- requirements for bank letter say that it should include the date the account was opened so if you cannot get that, i would include 3-6 months worth of bank statements or older bank statements you might still have to show that it isnt a new account.

2- any currency is fine and cic does their own conversion. However, in the application you have to enter the CAD equivalent when you are asked how much money you will bring.

3- i had my bank say in the letter that there are no outstanding loans. Does it say that anywhere on your bank statement? If not, i would think it is important that you can prove it as cic only counts your net worth, so savings minus debt as part of your application. That is why you have to be able to show how much debt you have.

4- if they are in english or french you are good. Just make sure you can prove everything that is required with the letter, otherwise you will have to add other documents like bank statements as well.

Both of my bank statements are 6 months old. You think I should ask my bank to give me a bank statement for the last year or 2 years instead? (Assuming they can do that)

Thank you for your answer

1 - nobody asks you when the account was opened. You only need to submit the recent bank statements or get it on a letter head from the bank, which contains address etc, so that CIC may verify if the need arises. make sure the statement or letter is a recent one.

2 - No problems here. Although, I would put the current currency conversion rate in the LOE to show that I meet the minimum CAD requirements.

3 - It would be good to get a letter from the bank, that the funds which are lying in your bank account are un-encumbered and can be accessed anytime.

4 - works fine

Wish you good luck !

They did ask for when the account was created,

This is what the help shows next to the upload document:
  • list of all your bank (chequing and savings) and investment accounts, the account numbers, dates each account was opened and the balance of each account over the past six months,
  • list all outstanding debts, such as credit cards and loans,
  • be printed on the letterhead of the financial institution, and include your name and the contact information of the financial institution (address, telephone number and e-mail address).
Thank you
