Hello everyone

My spouse and I are starting to make an application to immigrate into Canada. I have a question regarding the Proof of Settlement funds. The CIC Document Checklist states that these funds must be 'unencumbered, easily transferable', whereas there's a link with this statement to their website where it's stated that the funds 'could be in the form of... documents that show property payable to you'.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use our house as capital for the settlement funds, and if so, what documents do we need to provide to show its value? I talked to a lawyer very briefly and he said that they just look at my bank account but I heard from a friend that they accept our house if we apply via London office. :'(

We're attempting to make the application ourselves without employing a specialist law firm, but we may need to purchase specific advice from a professional along the way. Does anyone know of any immigration lawyers who can offer such a service?

Many thanks

Property valuation will not work for the initial application that you lodge as the people in CIC are the ones that decide your eligibility. As it says in the guideline, it has to be easily transferable funds like bank account, mutual funds etc. However, when your application gets to the VO stage (in London) then you might be able to show your property valuation.

Hello everyone!

I've got a question about bank accounts as a proof of funds. I'm applying under FSWP as a principal applicant. As a proof of funds I want to show my bank account and my husband's bank account, who's is going with me. Will it work? I mean, is it ok that I don't have all the required amount on my personal account? I only have about 50% of required amount on my bank account and another 50% is on my husband's account. Is it ok?
