Hey all,

Sorry for a double post, my last question kind of got lost with no answer. I'd appreciate any advice on this case. Here's my timeline

  • Applied for CEC in October 2011
  • Received AOR + Application Number February 20, 2012 -> Application transferred to CPP-Ottawa
  • Received Medical forms February 29, 2012
  • Medicals done March 2, 2012. ECAS shows "Medical results have been received" since sometime in March

The problem is, at the time of application my passport expiry date was August 2012. I have then extended it till 2017 (it's a stamp on the back of the main page) but haven't notified CIC yet. The guy from their call center told me just to wait, but I am not sure if he got what I meant.

My question is, when you get your passport request (if successful), is there a validity date tied to your PR visa already based on the validity of your passport? My understanding is that if not, you could just send them an explanatory note about the extension along with your passport after you get your passport request. Does this sound reasonable to you or should I just notify them now somehow? (I am just trying not to bug them much with no good reason.)

It's not a problem! People have to renew passports all the time. No, the PR visa is not tied to the expiration date on your passport (actually, it is tied your medicals). But I think your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months at the time of landing. You're covered. If/when you receive your passport request, it might be a good idea to include a cover letter pointing out the extension and the location of the stamp. But other than that, no worries!
