Hi there,

My Japanese wife and daughter are gearing up to return to Canada as my wife just received her notification to send her passport to Manila to receive her visa. However my daughter did not receive anything at all. I made a mistake and added her as a dependent despite her not requiring this and money was returned to us from CIC. My question is regarding my daughter, will she just be able to enter Canada as a Canadian citizen right off the bat or do I have to prepare further paper work? CIC didnt mention anything at all regarding my daughter so I assume she will be able to enter Canada freely as she is half Canadian? Anyways, any help regarding this matter would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Hi

As you were previously advised, you need to apply for your daughter's Certificate of Citizenship. She can enter Canada on her Japanese passport without issue.

However, without the proof of citizenship, you will most likely face problems in getting her provincial healthcare. Most, if not all, require proof such as a Canadian passport, the citizenship certificate or a Canadian birth certificate in order to give coverage.

I suggest you submit the Certificate of Citizenship app. Once you've submitted it, with proof of imminent travel for the child, you can apply for a limited validity Canadian passport.
