Question about Medical Request for Principle and co-applicant

Hi guys,

My wife and I applied for the Permanent Residence under the Canadian Experience Class in June 2012; I am the principle applicant and my wife is the co-applicant. We've just received the "Medical Request" from CIC last week.

Since my wife is now pregnant (expecting at around Oct 2013), we decided she won't be doing the medical check-up until the baby is born, due to the potential hazard in doing the chest x-ray.

My question is, can I, as a principle applicant, go ahead and do the medical check-up and “land” first. And then, my wife, as a co-applicant, does her
medical check-up and sends the result separately? Or do we have to do the medical check-up and send the results together?

Also, what do we have to do for delaying the MR? Do we need to notify CIC?
Last question... should we pay our RPRF first? even if we have decided to delay the MR

I know it's a LOT of questions (and probably some dumb ones). Thanks a lot in advance!

Your wife's medical will have to be completed before CIC can finalize the application and issue a visa. So you will have to wait until after the child is born and she can have the x-ray. It doesn't matter if your wife is listed on the application as accompanying or non-accompanying, her medical must still be completed before the visa can be issued. You should notify CIC your wife is pregnant and that you won't be able to submit the x-ray until after the baby is born.

Scylla, thanks for you reply.
My other question is, can I go ahead and do the medical first? and then I would have fulfilled all the requirements and my wife will delay her medical until the child is born. In other words, can we get approved to be issued visas at two different time?

You will both need to complete medicals now, so processing can continue. They will exempt your wife from doing the xray component until after the child is born, so you have nothing to worry about.

Proceed and arrange medicals for you and your wife, just let them know she is pregnant so cannot do the xray component at this point.

I know this might be the best option, and I will probably do this anyway. I just wanted to check here to see if anyone had this kind of experience. And I know, I tend to over-think too much sometimes.

Thanks for your reply too.

It's really the only option if you want to continue the PR application. You have nothing to worry about, as I've said - they will leave the xrays until after your wife has had the child!

Your visa can't be approved until your wife's medical is complete.
