Question about having PR Visa and Work visa at the same time

Hi all,

Hope some of you would be patient to review my plan and see if there are any issues or violations that I'm doing.

I want to renew my work visa but my PR has already been approved. I'm already here in Canada on a work status and my passport with PR stamp should be arriving within the next 2-3 weeks.

According to CIC, my PR visa expires in July 2018. Due to some personal preference I want to land as a PR on June 2018. But before that I want to be able leave Canada and come back not as a PR.

For example, on March and May, I have some trips planned but I do not want to return to Canada as a PR yet. I want to remain on work status until June.

On June I will go to the U.S. and re-enter Canada as a PR.

Your plan has a major flaw. Once you travel back to Canada you can't choose to enter as a Worker and the border officer will process your landing and you will become a PR. You can try to ask to officer to enter as a Worker, but there is no guarantee that your request will be granted. Good Luck!

Thank you for pointing that out, if what you say is true that is indeed a major flaw.

Can anyone else confirm this, can I basically choose which Visa to use when I land?

If I cannot choose which Visa to use and the officer processes my PR visa as soon as I come back then all my whole plan useless

Hi

CBSA will generally allow someone to enter on their current status instead of landing as a PR if they have a valid reason. That reason is usually because the person must travel before their PR card would arrive. However, if you are attempting to do this multiple times, there is the possibility that CBSA will eventually refuse and make you land. There are no guarantees.

Just in case someone is interested...I have found out by calling CIC that having both TRV and PR Visa is not allowed. The agent I spoke with, explained that once they stamp your passports with PR Visa, the TRV is considered void.

I need to submit a special request letter to CIC not to void my TRV and this is still subject to the approval of the case officer.

I won't be pursuing this any further, will just stick with the PR Visa :D
