[pre]Hi everyone
I became permanent residence here in 2008 and I have just graduated from university. That means I don't have any income now. My question is if I can own a property such as a condo or a house. Is it good enough to bring my mother here. Please advice me. Thanks

According to guide 5196, you will have to prove you have an income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary income - this is called the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO). Each year, the Canadian government decides what this amount is and publishes the information. You will have to provide Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) with documents that show your financial resources for the past 12 months and prove you are financially able to sponsor members of the family class. You may get the help of a co-signer (must be your spouse or common-law partner).
Low Income Cut-off (LICO) Effective January 1 - December 31, 2010
Size of Family UnitMinimum necessary income
1 person (the sponsor)$20,584
2 persons$27,787
3 persons$34,306
4 persons $39,455
5 persons$43,913
More than 5 persons, for each additional person, add:$4,457

Your wife can stay in India as long as India allows her to stay - as long as she is a Canadian Citizen she can be wherever she wants during the process. If she is a permanent resident of Canada then she was not supposed to leave Canada at all through the process.

As for the passport request, ND does usually ask for them quite early in the process... it might be worth checking on ecas to see if they have the correct address.

You should post your questions on the New Delhi applicants thread as they will be able to give you a better indication of their timelines.
