I am an American who is currently visiting my Canadian girlfriend and I have been in Canada on this visit since December 2015, with multiple visits before this since December 2014. We will be getting married in 2 weeks although my visitor status will expire on June 2nd. I am currently in the process of filling out my visitor extension form (IMM5708E) and uploading all required documents. What I am curious about though is that if I should wait until after we're married to fill out my extension request to give it a better chance of being accepted under the premise that we need the time to work on our inland sponsorship application, rather than just asking to "visit my girlfriend for a longer period of time".
I have searched all that I could on the internet about this type of situation but I haven't come across any solid answers that make us feel more confident in this matter. I hope that someone with more knowledge and experience could give us some input.
Thank you.
