Hi,
I have a question about the Vancouver Drivers license. I have an expired PR card and expired landing documents which are expired at 2008. However, I have a Valid US drivers license which will expire on June this year.
So my question is, is there any ways I could get a Canadian Drivers license? I cannot renew my PR card because I did not meet Resident Obligations.. I need two years to renew my PR card. But I'm a legal resident permanent in Canada.
Thank you!

I think you need a valid PR card in order to get a BC Driver license. Contact ICBC for details.

Well you need primary and secondary ID.

Most of the primary ID is stuff that should be issued from within Canada; if you have a BC Services Card, I think you should be good to go with the secondary ID (US Passport / US Drivers License).

But if he did not live in Canada and paid into MSP, then he might not have a valid services card anymore, and without a current PR card he will not get the other one renewed. Just thinking..

I remember someone saying that they found out that you can get a paper drivers license in BC without a PR card so it's like a temporary license kind of like they issue while they are making your card license.

However, you also have the option of going to Ontario and get an Ontario license because you do not need to have a PR card to get a license there.

I don't think expired PR card should matter in getting a drivers license. Just get the driving record from the DMV in the US. Have the record, turn in the US license and get the Canadian drivers license. Straight forward. Get it before June, once expired you cannot get the Canadian license in exchange for the US drivers license any more.

well yes, i got mine in Ontario just months before my US drivers license was to expire.
I did not have my PR card (hadn't arrived then), just COPR...

Any chance you remember where this info came from? I wasn't able to find anything about it on ICBC web site.

I can confirm this. I exchanged my driver license for a BC one, showed them my COPR and said I did not receive the PR card yet. The lady said, that is fine, and gave me the yellow paper. Once the PR card arrived, I went to the issuing office again and the DL got sent to me within a week

Thank you for the information. What was that yellow paper? Some sort of temporarily DL or else? Do you remember if it had an expiration date? I mean, was it something valid only for a month or two (like paper tags on your new car) or you could have used it for much longer?
