I had applied for my study permit restoration on Oct 9th 2019 hoping to receive it on time to start my studies on January 2nd for the Spring 2020 semester. Due to longer processing times my study permit was issued on the 21st of January. Since my permit came in late the University had to defer my admission to Summer 2020. Im would start studying from May 11th, 2020 which is within the '150 days' requirement (from Jan 3rd, 2020 deferral date till May 11th, 2020). So my question is that do I still need to apply for a visitors visa (by the time I get the visa I would have started studying) or would I still be in compliance with my study permit as long as I start studying next semester? since mine was a restoration case

I think you should wait and book your ticket when you are close to the date you are supposed to start your study.
If you do come how will you survive in Canada unless you have relatives you can accommodate you till that time and remember you are not allowed to work before you start your course you have to attend your classes .
It’s best to make sure that your seat is confirmed for May , a lot of students have paid for their courses and obtain study permit but their seats were not reserved at the institution so they had to wait for next semester... please do contact your institution to make sure that every thing is correct to avoid huge expenses and disappointment in the future.
If you don’t mind which province have you applied ?

Oh I am currently in Canada, BC. I already had courses booked for this semester and now they just moved my admission and confirmed it for next semester. Another thing is that I cannot leave and come back in time since my TRV is also expired and I have to apply for extension

Okay that’s clear I thought you were outside Canada.
Just make sure that you extend your study permit or change conditions on your study permit. I think your study permit should be okay no ? How long was your study permit issued ?
As long as you have a status in Canada and plan to leave you can still apply for your Trv to be able to enter Canada again before you start your studies.
