Hi,

I'm preparing citizenship application and stuck at question 6B (When did you first come to Canada to live)

I first came to Canada in 2001 as an international student, and got PR in 2012.

The question asks when I came to Canada to "LIVE".

Should I write the date I got PR status or the date I first came Canada in 2001.

Online residence calculator asks the same question. If I put the date I became PR, pre-PR period wouldn't be included.

Am I ok to write the date I first came to Canada as an international student?

Since 2001, I stayed in Canada all along other than few visits to my home country.

Will CIC request the prove that I really came in 2001?

I came to Canada to live as a student in 2002 and didn't get PR until 2012 - I put September 3rd, 2002 as when I came to Canada to live, since that's the truth! In the citizenship application they want proof of studies in English anyway, so I sent my uni transcript as proof of that - but no, they will not ask for proof (or they should not) however, transcripts/bank statements are good enough to prove that if they do. While they only consider the previous four years in your application, your living in Canada previously helps you claim residence ties should they end up sending you a form like a CIT0520 or an RQ.
