Hi there,

So I started work March 20th 2018, and would assume 1 year is March 20th 2019.

I work on average 35 hours a week.

However I did take off 13days for a vacation. I was not paid on these days, as the office made a mistake and paid all my holiday pay to me a few months earlier in a lump sum. I was paid for probably a week of holidays at that time.

Do I need to add those 13 days to make it a full year? and make 1 year April 1st 2019?

Hi there,

So I started work March 20th 2018, and would assume 1 year is March 20th 2019.
That would be one year + 1 day. March 19 would be 1 year.

I work on average 35 hours a week.
However I did take off 13days for a vacation. 13 calendar days, or 13 work days?

I was not paid on these days, as the office made a mistake and paid all my holiday pay to me a few months earlier in a lump sum. I was paid for probably a week of holidays at that time.

I don't know where you work (which province) but 2 weeks of vacation is the minimum.

Do I need to add those 13 days to make it a full year? and make 1 year April 1st 2019?
Assuming you mean 13 calendar days (2 weeks of vacation), then no, you do not need to deduct that time from your eligibility. However, I usually recommend that people work a few extra weeks just to ensure that they are covered in case of a small miscalculation. Give yourself a little buffer. Not always possible, but good if you can do it.

Thank you so much for your fast reply.

I took off 13 work days. I’m in BC. So I guess with two weeks minimum I’d just have to allow an extra 3 days of unpaid holidays.

So to play it safe I guess I’ll just add another week to the March 19th.

Thanks again :)
