can someone please enlighten my friend...she claims she transferred employer effective Jan. 14, 2010 (with new work permit) thus paying her tax starting january 2010, does her former employer still needs to pay her tax covering Jan. 1-14, 2010? in this case, will the former employer still issue her T4 only on that period?

Former employer will only pay taxes for her salary until her last day of work, in her case it would Jan 14/2010. If she work from Jan 1-14 for the former employer, they will pay taxes and have to provide her T4 but they will give her T4 in 2011 for 2010 tax year and new employer will pay from Jan 15 onward.
