Not sure I completely understand the questions, but I'll try.

- You shouldn't need to carry cash (except to cover costs of a taxi from the airport etc!). The only time you would need to have proof of funds (bank statements etc) is if you are applying for / picking up your visa at the port of entry - I don't think that is the case with you.

- Not sure about the phone - some countries are compatible, some not.

- You should be eligible for OHIP (free public health insurance) after 90 days. You will need to arrange your own private health cover for that initial 90-day waiting period if your company isn't providing it for you.

Hi,

OHIP covers residents/TFWs of the state of Ontario. Since you are arriving in Edmonton you would be covered under AHCIP. Visit http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/temporary-residents.html for more details. It says you would be provided coverage but when this coverage is applicable it is not very clear.

As for mobile I would invest in a Blackberry (Canadian Smartphone). :)

Good luck to you.........

I think you are very much right this is not so clearly mention when it's applicable. can u please elaborate some of the specific points which any newbie have to keep in mind when taking AHCIP and Is dental insirance is incledes in this plan or not.

As u prefer to invest In Blackberry so what would u suggest me to bring the cellphone from india or buy it from canada.I heard there are lots of companies tied u with the contract if u buy new cellphone there in locking period

waiting for your answers which will help me to clear my doubts.
thanks

You can bring your Samsung Smartphone (must be open line and with sim card). There are also prepaid plans so you're not tied with a contract to any provider. As to the visa, the W1 TRV allows you to enter Canada as a worker, but you need to obtain your WP upon entry. You will use copies of you WP to be able to obtain your SIN and health card. You need to carry cash or credit card, but not as much as when you are landing as immigrant. What if after a day you got terminated for unsatisfactory performance (just a scenario)?

I mean the phone must be something that is not hard wired with the phone provider, something that uses a sim card. Open line meaning any phone provider sim card can be used and then you just buy phone cards to the amount you need per month.

Astasi is right, you will be under AHCIP, not OHIP (I didn't read your post properly!)

Not sure about AHCIP, but I know dental is NOT covered under OHIP.

Hi,

Mobile phones in India are generally not hard wired with the mobile company except for Iphones that come with a contract. Perhaps that's the reason why sam.ums was not able to understand the concept of locked & unlocked handsets & whether they can be used freely across the globe.
