Dear Leon,

The school board is asking if I am coming to Canada as a permanent resident or temporary
you know by know that I will be temporary then permanent hopefully in a matter of a month under FSW (my kids will come later on permanent visa only)

They say if I enter quebec as a perminant resident my kids will have to go to a french school (while they know some french, they will be a slower students than when they are taught in English - to be honest I will have hard time helping them study)

If I/they on temprary visa the school baords say that they will be studying in Bilingual schools.

What I do not understand is: me and my kids applied under the FSW program, not the quebec progam and shall be landing in Ontario, does the rule 101/104 apply to us?although we are under FSW, landed in Ontario?

Any suggestions?

thanks again

1. It doesn't matter where you "land" if you move to Quebec, your children when PRs will have to attend a French language school, unless you pay for a private school.

I can not really help you there. Quebec has their own laws on a lot of things and Quebec official language is French. If you choose to settle there and they send your kids to French schools, I am sure they will catch up. Many immigrant children come to Canada with little knowledge of English or French and still do fine.

The advice you're getting from leon and PMM is sound. Basically, the law says that unless your children have received the majority of their education in English, in Canada, they're going to French schools. They might be accepted into an English School if they did some of their schooling in English Canada first. One thing I'd add, is that, depending upon their ages, there are few private, English/bilingual schools that can accept them, as the law applies to private schools accepting subsidies from the Quebec gov't as well (the majority of them.)

Welcome to Quebec. ::)
