Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, and trying to glean all the info I can but I have some questions still. Here are the basics about my family before I start:
Me - age 29, US citizen by birth
Education - B.A. in Elementary Education, 2005, from a US university
Work - roughly 5 yrs teaching elementary school in the US, currently teaching in South Korea
Language - English native speaker, French Oral Comprehension B2 on TEFaQ, French Oral Expression B1 on TEFaQ
Husband - age 30, Mexican citizen by birth, no other citizenships
Education - some university training towards a Radiologist certification, no qualifications completed. High school and University studies done in the US, prior studies in Mexico
Work - Several years teaching English at private language institutes in Mexico, various other full-time jobs before that
Language - English - fluent, French - very basic, no test scores
Son - age 2 (almost 3), US citizen by birth, no other citizenships (eligible for Mexican citizenship, but we haven't pursued this)
Our Residence - South Korea since 1 month ago, we have all been admitted under resident status for 13 months and likely will stay for at least another year provided I get to renew my contract with my current employer
I have completed the preliminary evaluation online for QSC and we just barely qualify. This year of work experience would probably seal the deal, or perhaps if my husband gained some measurable French ability this year. But as it stands, it seems we just make the cut-off.
We have no criminal issues or other complications. My husband is unable to obtain a US resident visa due to some really stupid choices his mom made with his US immigration paperwork when he was young. Fortunately none of those choices involved seeking asylum as I know doing so in the US would automatically create problems for Quebec/Canada.
Anyway, my biggest questions are currently these:
* Are we eligible to file for QSC through Hong Kong due to our current residence in South Korea?
* If we are eligible, is it more advantageous to file through Hong Kong vs. Buffalo? Mainly speaking in terms of processing time...
* Are there any other obstacles that you more experienced people see in our situation, before we attempt to apply?
Thanks in advance to anyone who reads and responds to this!
