Dear Qorax /Seniors,

I really need your help here , please treat this as urgent request :

"As part of the medicals, one of my friends was asked to re-confirm the suspicion of heart murmur. All her regular medical tests were normal. The ECG and 2D echo tests turned out to be normal, however the TEE (trans-esophegal echo) test revealed a slight gap in the membrane, which the doctors say would require ASD closure surgery. However, she is completely normal now and would not like to risk the heart surgery at this stage (28 yrs). What are there chances of rejection if the surgery is not done now but at a later stage and they are willing to sponsor the entire cost in Canada? What is the best possible way to approach CHC on this issue? This is the last step before the PR. Please advise."

Regards,

MDM

Yes, Heart Murmur cases r most likely to be just Atrial Septal Defects (ASD), this causes frequent "chest colds" and may or may not create 'breathing difficulty'. Fortunately, they aren't Ventricular Septal Defects (VSD), something very similar to ASD; but, which could need 'repair' surgery.

Most children with Heart Murmurs &/or with ASDs lead normal lifestyles, in their earlier stages, as well as Adults. And most wouldn't require a surgery either. Very few restrictions apply. For instance, if they have had surgery through an "incision through the breast-bone", they are limited from playing rough contact sports for a while, ONLY.

In my opinion, Heart Murmur cases, either of ASD, or even with a VSD, aren't a 'medical inadmissibility' case in Canadian PR. Most likely s/he would have a 'medical furtherence' but, wont head to 'rejection'. There could be delays, as PMB-Ottawa is likely to ask for a 'specialist's opinion' -- but, no adversity of the case is expected.

All the best!

Qorax

Ps.: I do not have any medical expertise, but in my pretty much earlier life I too was diagniosed with 'heart murmurs', while on selection meds for the Military. Whose meds were much serious than the PRs. I was eventually 'passed' w/out any surgery - and continued to donne my uniform for a longtime w/out any problems. And much later have become a successful PR as well. So would your friend be!

Dear sideydicey,

I did also medicals for my son who has VSD (he is only 3 month now). Medicals done on 1 December 2010. We gave the DMP the cardiologist report and the DMP said that in his opinion is a small issue and does not think that could cause a problem for the immigration. I asked my lawyer, they dont have experience in such cases. They told me to wait for VO reply to see, and accordingly they will act.

However, I did a thorough search about such medical issue related to canadian immigration, but could not find much information about the results. In my opinion, it is a 50/50 chance, depending on the medical explanation received by the VO and it is solely depends on the VO discretion.

As Qorax said, as well, I don't think this medical issue will lead to direct rejection (if there will be). They will ask for a specialist report to get detailed information about the case to decide if the person will require surgery, medication or any kind of social services (known as excessive demand). They will analyse such report and inform you of the results.

Qorax, as I notice from may threads here, if they will request further medicals, they usually requested within 6 weeks of receiving the medicals, is that right? Our medicals has exceeded the 6 weeks last week, but did not received any feedback from them. Your comments is appreciated.

Sideydicey, give me more details on when the medicals has been done.

Let us stay on touch, and I will keep you posted as well.

Hope all the best for all.

Qorax.

As you had predicted, they sent out a medical furtherance letter giving us an additional 90 days of time. The cardiologists and DMP are of the opinion of conducting the ASD closure surgery. What would you recommend in this situation? Would they reject my application if we do not go ahead with the surgery?

Thanks,
Sideydicey

The logic says that as the cardiologist and the DMP recommeded sugery for closing the ASD, she should undergo this surgery and hope she will be totally fine after that.

After the surgery, you should have no problems in the immigration process and you shall succeed in receving the visa.

Can I ask when you did the first medicals and what is the time between the two medical requests?

Hope the above is helpful.

As it's a matter of 'surgery' - I'd obtain a 'second opinion' before plunging into it... PR or no PR.

Some people are getting rejection letters whereas others are receiving 6-12 months delay letter. Hopefully, you will be in the second case. Keep on checking your E-cas. This may change from DM to RBVO. Wait for the letter.
