We landed a month ago and just received our PR Card. My wife who is a USA citizen wants to be working in US for some months until she finishes her Canadian nursing exam and get a job, then resign from her current job in US. She only works weekend, and will commute back and forth every week. From M-F she will be in canada and travel to US on weekends to work. My question is: Must she surrender her US Driver's License and change her car plate number to Ontario's plate number, now? or can she maintain her US driver's License and plate number until she finally moves to Ontario?
Thanks in advance!!

She is a visitor. Coming to Canada on 5 days a week and then returning back to USA, no new number plate, Drivers licence or insurance is required. Save money on it, Canada is expensive for insurance. Like Ontario number plate vehicles can go to USA at any time, even the insurance from Canada works in USA. If someone stays for 3 months then it is required. But as you said she would not be continuously staying in Ontario.
You can visit MTO website and this information is there.

Thanks for your input! Now, She currently have in possesion U.S Drivers License and U.S insurance. Do you suggest that she keep the U.S Drivers licence until till she moves down to canada or should she surrender the license when she enters and how about the plate number? Can u please give more details.. What will she say at the border while entering, will she say that she'll register now or later? Remember she will commute back and forht once every week.
Thanks!
