Hi Guys,

I have a question that as per new update that immidiate family members can enter Canada of Permenant residents. So I am applying for my mother to visit Canada from India. Please help me in below questions:-

1. Purpose of Travel - AS per CIC we need to select OTHER and then write COVID19 in reason. I am not sure if we really need to select this reason if family member is visiting PR holder. PLease advise.

2. What should we write in Invitation/Support letter for Immidiate family member (Mother) of PR holder , It is normal invitation but I am not sure if we need to prove it is for essential purpose.

3. Itinerary - Should we include Quarantine plan into itinerary?

I will appriciate your answers.

Thanks :)

Others can coment as well but personal view might be that you need to approach this TRV application same as you might regardless of COVID given just because the restrictions have been eased slighty for immediate family members doesnt mean it is a free pass as still need to qualify with the usual requirements such as purpose of travel, home ties and so on.

Many here would ask what is the purpose of travel given potentially exposing your mother to COVID, is it really neceassary, only you know that. Note cannot speak for India but other countries have reported that getting travel insurance has either been impossible or very expensive and for sure excludes any illness resulting from COVID so keep that in mind.

As for whether needing to prove whether essential or not seems to make some sense to show why such a visit is necessary whether need to prove essential or not simply to backup the need for a TRV at this time.

Probably would not harm including mention of quarantine especially as current guidance is that a minimum visit for immediate family should be 15 days, 14 days of which of course would be quarantine. Although I have no insider knowledge probably still advisable to not ask upfront for a vist in terms of months as opposed to weeks greater than the minimum stay required. As you probably know it will CBSa who decide at the border how long someone can stay.

Finally there have been various reports on this forum of people who have arrived at checkin thinking they could travel meeting any requirements but have been turned away so nothing is currently guaranteed, keep that in mind in terms of being able to demonstrate being able to travel as an immediate family member. Checkin agents believe have the ability if required to validate travel with Canada Immigration.

Above personal view only that others may agree or disgaree with but its all common sense to prepare a case based on the guidelines in front on you even if you like putting yourself in the shoes of a visa officer on what critical need would there be to be convincing for a mother to visit during the current pandemic.

As for consulting with a lawyer as per another reply thats upto you if makes you feel more comfortable and you want to spend the money. Still will not guarantee either a TRV being approved or travel being authorised during the current emergency.
