Hi,

I am an Indian passport holder, currently residing in Australia.I recently completed my PR landing related formalities for Canada, including filling the PR card form. Unfortunately I had to return to Australia after 2 weeks, so I have no PR cards in case I want to go to Canada anytime soon. The PR cards will be delivered to my relative's place who will then hand it over to me.

I am in contact with a few recruiters and may land a job in Canada. But obviously they may not be inclined to wait till my PR cards are in my hand.

I am planning to apply for PRTD documents, and had below questions:

1) Will applying PRTD automatically stop PR card process or invalidate them if delivered?
2) Should I rather wait for the PR card to be delivered first and then apply for PRTD?
3) Will refusal for PRTD document create any issues for my return to Canada?
4) Do US citizens also need PRTD (my son is US citizen)?
5) To apply for PRTD, passport is the only document required in original, rest supporting documents need to be photocopies (including COPR)?
6) Does mine being an Indian citizen approaching an VAC/Canadian embassy for PRTD in Australia create any problems?
7) The website mentions PR card processing time as 61 days, but I am hearing it takes much longer. Any recent example where the card was delivered within provided time?
8) I only have 1 proof of permanent residence i.e. COPR. What else can I use as second proof (don't have health card yet) as PRTD application asks for 2 proofs?

My apologies if some of these questions have already been answered, I couldn't find any detailed answers.

Thanks!

1) Not sure, but I don't think your PR card application will be affected.
2) That would depend on how long the PRTD process usually takes and how urgent your trip to Canada is.
3) The only way your PRTD can be refused is if you do not and cannot meet the residency obligation. If you became a PR recently (< 2 years ago), the PRTD will not be refused.
4) Again, not sure, but as far as I know, yes, they do. If you're a PR, you cannot use your US passport to enter Canada as a visitor.
5) No idea.
6) No
7) Don't know
8) I'm looking at the IMM 5627 document checklist; I can't seem to find any mention of them requiring two supporting documents.

No
2) Should I rather wait for the PR card to be delivered first and then apply for PRTD?
See above
3) Will refusal for PRTD document create any issues for my return to Canada?
You'll only be refused at this point if you can't prove you are who you say you are
4) Do US citizens also need PRTD (my son is US citizen)?
If he's flying on a US passport he won't, because US passport holders can fly to Canada without an eTA. He will then need to identify himself as a PR at the border. If he's flying on an Indian or Australian passport, he'll need a PRTD/PR Card.

Don't know about the others as never been through a PRTD app.

IMM 5627 point 8 clearly states "two (2) pieces of evidence that show your permanent resident status in Canada"
