Hi all,

I am getting some conflicting opinions and wanted some clarity.

I landed last night at Sarnia and officer said plain I cannot leave the country till I get the PR card.

The website says I can leave.

I have to go to the US on business and there is no way out of it. What are my options?

Apply PRTD from Canada or when I go to the US?

Anyone has any experience on how long it takes to get the PRTD? I am travelling to the US in the 2nd week of August for a week. I can maybe extend it if I have to stay longer because of the PRTD procedure.

as far as I know, if you have US visa you can easily leave Canada , but they will surely ask you PR card, when you return back to Canada. you can apply PRTD in USA . other option is you can enter Canada by car with COPR. one of friend she left yesterday for home country without PR Card , nobody asked her about PR card on departure.

you have to apply PRTD outside Canada.

Of course you can leave. You can reenter in one of three ways

1. With your PR card - you won't have this
2. With your PRTD - you can apply and get this
3. With your COPR - only if you drive into Canada in a private vehicle (rental car is fine). You cannot travel on a commercial carrier.
