PRTD Application withdrawal?

I applied for a PRTD under the H & C grounds. What is the maximum time it can take for the application to be done? When i asked if I can take my passport they said if i need my passport i can take it from them any time without the withdrawal of my application. I heard many people say that if i needed to take my passport i had to withdraw the application. They said all you have to do is call the embassy. Is that true?

There is no official maximum number of time. It's while possible for the process to take a number of months.

This might be a very obvious answer, but have you tried calling the embassy/the VAC you send the application to and asked them?
