Dear friends,

I arrived in Canada as a landed immigrant on May 10, 2018 under CEC category. According to the current trend I am not expecting the PR card by July 29, on the day when I leave Canada to visit home for 17 days. So, I am mentally preparing myself to apply for a PRTD from Singapore Visa Office. My concern is that I am not currently (and will not be) employed and if that would be a reason to be rejected the PRTD application. I searched on Canada.ca website but found very minimal information regarding that. If someone please share any relevant experience, I would highly appreciate that. Thank you!

Being employed or not is irrelevant in applying for a PRTD all they are really concerned about is the residency obligation which obviously given you only landed beginning May is not an issue. Initial PR cards based on some feedback here seem to take 6-8 weeks so assuming straight forward you might be lucky anyway.

Cannot help on PRTD processing time as this seems to vary by country and they do not publish a processing time so apply the moment you get home.
