Providing a letter for proof of funds in lieu of bank statements?

I was wondering if anyone has sent a letter stating that the proof of funds money was given to them? I am wondering if this can be done in lieu of 6 months of bank statements?

I have a family member willing to give me the money, as we had a recent death in the family and there is life insurance money available. They could write the letter for me and we can even have it notarized.

I am emailing Buffalo but thought I would ask here as well.

Hi,

I dont think that would work because the money you are showing as a proof of funds should be your own. But i might be wrong, lets see what seniors have to say.
