Hello all,

So in November me and my husband applied for sponsorship. We checked everything (double triple checked in fact) and sent our application out. Everything went through ok, until today. Today I get an email from CIC asking to provide more 'Proof' of my relationship to my husband. I don't really understand what else they want. In our original package we sent : Official Marriage Certificate(License), photos of our wedding day, ticket stubs from all the times we visited each other, copies of emails we sent to each other, cards we sent each other and an entire 10 page Skype log showing all of our skype calls and skype messages to each other.

I'm very nervous now, because I don't know what else to send them. This is what they ask for::

Proof of relationship: additional documents proving your relationship with your sponsor. This includes but is not limited to: Joint bank account statements; proof of residential lease in both names, outing and wedding pictures, e-mail exchanges, cards, identity documents showing same address, insurance policies, wills, anything naming your partner as beneficiary, documents showing travel together, documents showing joint ownership of possessions, joint mortgage/loan/rental agreement/bank accounts, etc.

They ask for things with both our names on it, and we simple don't have anything like that yet. The only thing with both our names on is the marriage license. Please guys, any help would be great on what else I need to send.

You can get insurance policy and have ur spouse as beneficiary. Or you can also send remittance slips

What Visa office are you delaing with ??

and from the sounds of it., it seems to me you have provided more than enought proof of relationship- what's there problem !!!

they are asking for poof with both names, I know for sure my hubby and I dont have that. This more sounds like it's base on a common-law relationship not marriage.

so now what???? like this is insane

How long were you dating before getting married? It's strange they would ask for so much proof for a US citizen.

You can very easily get
- cheap term life insurance on each other
- supplementary credit card in spouse's name
- show you've changed marital status with CRA to "married"
- mail to both of you, delivered to same address

We were dating for a little over a year before we got married. I'm not sure what happened, maybe we didn't label enough things? idk. We are dealing with CPP-O. My husband did get me a credit card(a couple months ago) to use that is attached to his Credit Card, so I'll definitely send that.

Thanks for giving me some ideas of what else to send. I honestly thought we had more than enough since I had read the forums before I sent anything to see what others have sent.

The things they ask for sound more like proof for common-law?! Have you lived together already? Otherwise I don't know why they would ask for joint lease, joint mortgage etc.

When they asked me for additional proof I really sent them everything I could find - even our joint cat adoption (I'm not kidding :p). Send them everything you have and an explanation letter why you can't provide the other documents. Make a list of all the things you include + print a cover for every proof you send. That's what I did and 4 weeks later they issued my visa. I think my proof in the beginning was just not well organized. When sending in my additional proof it was the most organized stack of paper I've ever created lol.

Good luck and stay calm

I know this is the last thing you want to hear, but by any chance did you have your pictures and chats in a separate envelope to that of the marriage certificate? The reason whay I ask is that believe it or not, sometimes things get misplaced, so it may be the case that in Mississauga the packet of relationship proof was not included before your file went to Ottawa. So in your case what I would do, is re-submit everything you did first time around (chats, pictures, skype logs, ticket stubs etc) , plus add the additional items other have mentioned.

I totally agree with your comments, again to me this sound like common-law relationship proof, this worries me because I will be sending about the same thing she sent coming real soon. and we have nothing joint. My husband lived in Canada before and we had a three years relationship before marriage, so our proofs consist of pictures, phone logs etc, but really not too much while we was dating besides like two or three pictures, I personally hate the camera so i hated taking pictures - trust me in my cover letter I will tell them just that. Now am worried and trying to find out what I can get join with my husband before I do my paper work and then again how can i do this if we never lived together. This sucks!!!!

I think we've figured out what to send now. Proof from both the CRA and IRS showing our filing status with both our names on it. A joint credit card. Also going to RESEND the photos of our wedding day. I just hope they enjoy all of the 'attachments' because they requested it all be emailed to them. lol

Another thought. Perhaps I should call them to ask if they received the original photos? Idk if they would be able to tell me that over the phone or not or even if they would know. Has anyone had any luck calling CIC about their individual case for help/questions?

That will take too long! Just go with your gut an "RESEND" all the stuff you mentioned, along with the new.

I think you will find all they really wanted is some sort of confirmation that you guys have in fact 'merged' your financials together. Myself and my hubby sent the same sorts of things you did, however, we included the documents we got from the bank stating that I was now a joint owner on the account, the new statement saying that I was the beneficiary of his life insurance and also his pension. We were not asked for anything extra. I don't think you will need to resend your photos, honestly. I think the joint credit cards and insurances and such will be sufficient.

Good luck!
