Hi all,

I just confirmed my COPR the other day and I'm in the process of getting all my relevant documents. I have a quick question about OHIP.

I have a joint bank account already here with my wife so I can provide a statement but the document list specifically asks for a mailed one.

I asked my bank and they were puzzled by this as there is no difference whether I get it in the mail or they/I print it myself. I get them electronically right now.

I have my June bank statement to hand which the branch printed for me, surely this is sufficient isnt it?

The whole point of it being mailed to you is that it proves you at least have access to the physical address that the mail is sent to. You would need to show the full envelope as well as the contents, with postmark etc. A bank statement doesn't prove you live anywhere...

Ok perfect, I wish they had just said this when I called but they didn't give any kind of explanation. That makes sense.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated!

Why are you focusing in on bank statements, there are loads of other documents they will accept as proof of residency, besides which, for Ontario, you cannot get OHIP until 3 months after landi9ng as settler anyway (although you can APPLY before that date). Surely you will convert your driving licence of have utility bills by then?

That's a fair point, I suppose I just wanted to do it as soon as possible.

Did my drivers license yesterday and should have a work offer this week so soon I should have loads of proof.

Yes, don't get fixed on one 'proof'. We waited until 2 months in to apply for my wife's OHIP and simply used her by then Ontario drivers licence.
